If you've been following everything with Cruize and I over the past year, you know that he has had some health issue. At times we thought it was issues with his hocks, as we knew those were fusing, he is also suspect of having PSSM. He's had Chiropractic care, Accupuncture, Xrays & injections for the hocks & knees...and still he refused to collect
Many Thanks to Dr. Bob Emery, Beadle Lake Large Animal Clinic, Battle Creek Michigan. Dr. Emery has retested Cruize's enzyme levels in regards to the suspected PSSM problems. He has been on a low starch, high fat diet for several months. Although his haircoat looks phenominal, he's still not wanting anyone on his back. Our next step is to ultrasound his back region, and look for signs of possible arthritis, or kissing spine.
Thank you to Dr. Beth Valentine, DVM, PhD, Dipl, ACVP. She is one of the leading researchers in regards to Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy, (PSSM or EPSM). Dr. Valentine has helped us figure out a diet that will work for Cruize, and combat this PSSM issue.
Rather than remain at a stand still with Cruize. I decided to put some weight on him for some Halter & Showmanship classes. Halter seems to be Cruizes' favorite class anyway.
